Uniforms in Pack 502

The Field Uniform

The main shirt with patches most people are familiar with is called the field uniform, or sometimes “class A.” The younger Lion scouts wear a more simple uniform with their rank’s T-shirt without patches. For more information on field uniform, check out Scouting.org’s Uniform information.

The Activity Uniform

We provide a pack T-shirt for less formal activities or situations that may be more messy/dirty for the scouts such as outdoor functions or camping.  A scouting T-shirt is called the activity uniform, or sometimes referred to as “class B.” The rest of the normal field uniform, like cub scout caps, shorts, etc. can all be worn as part of the activity uniform.

Uniform Benefits

Wearing the uniform represents Scouting’s spirit of equality and democracy. It gives the scout identity and promotes comradeship with their denmates and the pack. The uniform is practical attire for scouting activities, and provides a way for scouts to wear the badges that show what they have accomplished.

We encourage cub scouts to collect all the uniform components. Scouts of Tiger, Wolf, or Bear rank who wish to display their adventure loop achievements will need a scout belt to put them on. The field uniform shirt is the only way to show ranks, and for Webelos their adventure pins hang from their shoulder colors. Scout shorts, skorts and pants are great for durability and extra pockets!

The Pack may also have uniform components available that have been donated by scouts who no longer need them.

Pack 502 Uniform Closet

Pack 502 has started a Uniform Closet to gather together a variety of donated uniform components. We have several uniform shirts and a handful of neckerchiefs for families (some shirts are brand new). The Musselman Scout Shop usually runs a uniform package special in September, so keep an eye out for that as an option for cost savings too.

To purchase your Scout’s uniform and insignia, please visit the Musselman Scout Shop at 2226 NW Military Hwy (210.341.8611 ext 500). The Scout Shop will sew on patches for a nominal fee, currently $3 per patch.
